Gary Grube

CTO

Gary has 40 years of experience in the arena of intellectual property, where he builds patent portfolios around inventions that solve important problems.

He has built intellectual property worth over $1B in total for large companies such as Motorola and startups such as Cleversafe (sold to IBM for $1.3B). Gary is a registered U.S. Patent Agent, has served on many industry, university advisory, and non-profit boards. He has appeared numerous times as an expert witness to the U.S. Congress and is a prolific inventor with over 388 issued U.S. patents. Gary is responsible for Rive’s patent portfolio which has over 25 patent filings with one approved patent.

From 1980-2008, Gary served in many senior management and R&D roles at Motorola (including CTO) and was Motorola’s first named Motorola Senior Fellow. Since then, Gary founded and has been CEO of the Caerus Institute, an intellectual property consultancy with a proven track record of creating over $1B of intellectual property value. Gary is responsible for RIVE’s patent portfolio, which currently has U.S. patent filings for over 25 inventions.

Gary received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois, an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology, and an M.B.A. from Northwestern University. He lives in Barrington Hills, IL with his wife Kathy of 31 years; they have one adult daughter. In his spare time, Gary enjoys organic farming and racing cars.
